Hi all.
This is an XP Home Edition question. At Start-up many programs which are not needed load during Start-up, what is the correct way of removing these from start-up and just having a desktop icon created for when these programs are needed?

thanks for any help

My first choice is to go into the respective programs options (or configuration or prefences) menu and disable "start with Windows" (or "show icon in taskbar",etc ) there.
If that is not an available option, then I go to the Msconfig/Startup tab and uncheck the respective boxes.

To create Desktop shortcuts, if you didn't create them during the programs installation, just right click on the programs executable and in the send to drop down menu choose "Desktop (create a shortcut)".
