Can anyone tell me how to get a program that starts when Windows starts to do so minimized to the taskbar tray.

The program is Webshots and it starts minimized to the taskbat tray on my computer. I am setting up another computer but can't get it to do the same there. It will only start as both a window and as an icon in the tray. The window must be closed manually and the icon remains and the program is active. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program but that doesn't change anything. Webshots was unable to give me an answer.

There has to be a way to force a program to start minimized to the tray and I'm betting that someone reading this will know the way to do this. All suggestions will be appreciated.

If the program is started from an Icon Shortcut - then right click on the icon, select the shortcut tab and change the 'run' option to minimized. This will work even if the icon is in the startup group.

Thank you, but I've already tried that. The result is an icon in the tray and the program also being shown in the taskbar. This is ever worse than the program being open on the desktop as I have to click it on the taskbar and then close it. Either way, the program remains running in the background and the tray icon remains. I want to find a way to set it so that it will do the same thing it does on my other computers - running in the background with the only visible evidence being an icon in the tray.

Contact Webshots, this kind of behaviour is specific to each program, not to Windows.

I appreciate your advice Jay, however, if you'll look in my original narrative you will see that I have already done that and came up empty.

Compare the appropriate ini file and registry settings on the two machine.

If you can't find an option along the lines of "display icon in taskbar", or failing that something in its ini file or registry settings I guess you are sunk?
