When I click on a link in my Favorites folder from the Start menu (Win XP), instead of going to the web page, the Windows printer dialogue opens. This only happens from the startup menu.

The same links work fine if I open up IE6 and click on a link from the Favorites list. This problem just started happening very recently, I was wondering if anybody had any tips on how to correct this?

Thanks in advance

Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, look at the settings for Internet Shortcut (about the sixth file type down). Click Advanced, and set "Show in IE' as the Default action. Test.

System Restore might help you revert back to a point in time when things worked.

Thanks for the above

The File types option now results in a secirity dialog which asks me if I want to open or save it - neither option does anything by way of opening the link

System restore now fails, no matter how far back i go.

I have found the source of the problem (I think), I was running Avant Browser, My antivirus (Innocculate 6) downloaded the latest signatures, and decided that the exe on the PC that launches the browser was leox.variant.worm and cured it with system cure.

Seems to be a known Issue on the avantbrowser forums on their website, Ill follow it up there

Thanks for the help

Cheers

Paul
