Stand Alone VFP 1

Hi there:
One reason for me buying VFP pro was that I believed that I could write stand alone applications. I believe that this should save our company a bundle of cash - no longer should every desktop have a copy of Access/Paradox/Approach (Yes I use all 3!); we can unify under the VFP flag, all written from one copy of VFP Pro.
First - am I right in this?
Second - my first attempt at running a stand alone .exe on a PC that had not VFP installed told me it could not find msvcr70.dll.
Without anybody trying to help in this particular problem (its probably me - I should RTFM!)could somebody please confirm that my premise is right? I just need reassurance!

Yes, you are right, you can build a standalone application with VFP.

VFP (as many programs of this type), requires runtime files to be installed (and some registered), in order for it to work.
VFP7 (VFP8, VFP9) comes with a modified version of InstallShield (seperate install on the VFP CD), that allows you to make a complete install (including the runtimefiles required to make it work).
Here is a list of the runtime files required for VFP7.0 (and an indication for the ones that need registering)

You will need a separate copy of VFP for each developer. If it's just you, then one copy is fine.

If a manufacturer has two programs, where one must be bought separately for each workstation and another program bought just once and compiled applications thereafter distributed, which program do you think they'll promote more? The more individual copies sold, the more they make.
