sqlplus hangs

after echoing
JServer Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production

hitting <enter> gets me a command prompt.

This is Oracle 9i r2 running on HP UX/11.
sqlplus is on UNIX.

any ideas?

Maybe somebody edited glogin.sql ?

the glogin.sql file is missing from the ORA_HOME/bin dir.
