SQLmgr EATING MY MEMORY!!!

Could someone tell me why the SQL service is so memory hungry. I have just recently upgraded one of our servers from 512K to 1GB of RAM. It seems that gradually over a period of time the service eats all the memory leaving none for other apps on the server, its as if it is leaking memory! has anyone else had this problem?

That's normal. SQL Server is designed to 'grab' as much memory as it can.

That's also why it is advised as a best practice that you don't have any other applications on your SQL Server server.

There is a way to limit the amount of memory SQL Server grabs. I'll look for the information on it and post it unless someone beats me to it.

Open Enterprise Mgr, right-click on the server, Properties. There is a memory control tab there.

In Enterprise Manager, go to the server and right click and select properties. You will see a memory tab where you can adjust the amount of memory. But as SQLBill says, It's really a bad practice to run other applications on the same server.

You can also change it by setting the momory configuration parameters min server memory and max server memory.
