I am running out out of hard disk space and have found that the sqlagent.1 file is 8GB!
I presume it's a log file, can I delete safely without having to stop services, etc?
It was last modified Oct 04.

Yes you can delete it.

While SQL Agent is running it logs to the SQLAGENT.OUT file. When the agent restarts SQLAGENT.OUT gets renamed to SQLAGENT.1, SQLAGENT.1 gets renamed to SQLAGENT.2, etc.

The old ones can be deleted with no problem.

Perfect!

I have 9 of these files and will get rid of them.
Good explanation of how the numbered ones are generated.
