We've just installed 3 instances of SQL2k on a Win2k server, 1 x default install and 2 x named installs as we are hosting databes for 2 clients

About to service pack it with file SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE

Will I have to install the service pack 3 times, one for each instance?

If so if we install further instances I guess we'd need to service pack it again each time?

cheers

Yes, you have to install service packs on each instance.

ok cheers Bill

When I install it will it prompt me for which installation I want to SP or can I do them in one hit. Seems longwinded that if you install 16 instances for example if a new SP or hotfix came out you'd need to install it 16 times

As I recall (from doing SP3a), I had to do each one separately. There was a window with a drop-down box that let me choose which instance I was updating.

cool

Done it now, you are correct it does indeed need doing for each one by selecting default or a drop down with the instance
