SQL2000 Install fails on NT4

I am installing SQL2000 on NT4 SP6a. It hangs at the end during Configuring... The error log says it had trouble checking a sector. Basically, all the databases are created except Tempdb.mdf has filesize of 0kb and Tempdb.ldf is never created. The error log mentions Tempdb.

I can paste the error message if needed. I found a MS Knowledge Base that has the exact same message but I'm not sure what to do from there. I wondering if anyone else encountered this.

I've done many SQL installs as that's part of my job. At various client sites with various setups. I've never had a problem installing so i'm getting flustered after my 3 attempt sessions.
