sql server related question

Hi people
I want to install Sql Server 200 on my computer
Now first of all I want to know that Can We run sql server 2000 on Windows 2000 Professional or we have to install windows 2000 advance server. I Heard that we can run sql server desktop edition on Windows 2000 Professional. Is this true.

secondly, whats exactly the difference between sqlserver 2000 desktop edition and enterprize edition?

is desktop for single pc user?
All i want to do is write few application connecting vb.net to sql server. Can i do this using sql server 200 desktop edition.
