SQL Server died after Reboot of Server. Can't connect

Hi Guys,

After many months I rebooted my Server and now I cannot connect to the SQL Server. The database was available, I think, before re-booting but not anymore..

The SQL Server Enterprise Manager Error Message says

A connection could be not be established to (local)
Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied
ConnectionOpen(Connect())..
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your
Server registration Properties

The SQL Server Service manager shows the service is not running. When I click on the manager, it shows up with a busy hour glass and then dies on its own and dissapears.

Any suggestions ?

Does enterprise manager show the instance as running?

If it does try looking in the SQL Server logs.

If it is not running, or it wont let you look at the logs, try looking in the system event logs.

Check the service is self via Computer Management. That will tell you if the OS has started the service or not.

Check the ERRORLOG file on the system and see what errors are logged to it. That should give you the reason that the service isn't starting or isn't available.
