Hi,

I just upgraded my computer to Windows XP from W98. I had SQL Server 7.0 on the W98 box. Now that I have upgraded my OS, I cannot connect to the SQL Server.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? When I go to open Enterprise Manager, I get the error message "Error 126: General Error". I cannot connect use SQL Analyzer either.

Thanks in advance,
Peter

Dear ;

what about your other software which were installed on W98, are they working properly after winXP ?

I think you will have to reinstalled SQL Server on XP.

Essa

Thanks Essa. All the other software is working fine.

If I re-install it, will it be able to see that there was a previous instance of SQL Server on the machine and connect to it?

Dear Peter ;

No it will not see the previous installed instance on the same machine. You can't connect with this instance. You will have to come up with some backup and recovery plans.

Regards,
Essa
