SQL Server 7 backup mystery

Hi
I have a sql server 7 system running with sp2 on NT4 with sp6. The server has maintenance plans setup for each of the db's. When I first set these up all was working ok but now one of the db's has aquired some strange behaviour.
In enterprise mgr the job shows that it has not run for just over a week and this is confirmed in the history reports for the job, however each day there is a new backup file created that is steadily growing as it should, on the hard drive (then backed up by 3rd party s/ware). Whilst this is happening it is also not deleting the old files eventhough it has been set to do so as part of the plan and keep just 2 days worth of backups.
I have deleted the plan and set it back up but nothing seems to fix this has anyone please got any ideas....???

Sounds odd. You've probably checked but could these backups be being created by a different job or has anyone else got db_backupoperator access and is running them? It sounds like they are being created by something else other that your DB Maintenance job

It is odd and I share your thoughts but I am the only one with access enough to create and run backups on this system. As for another job creating the files - I only wish this was the case all the other jobs are creating backups perfectly and in the right locations (each one creates its own sub folder for the job)
