I am the IT assistant for a mid sized company.
I was given a msdn dvd to install sql server 2005 on a new users computer. My question is, the dvd has different versions, IA64, x64, x86. What is the difference between those? In the past ive installed sql before but for example "developer edition" just pop the cd and click next ect.

Hi,

IA64 is for Itanium 64 bit Servers, x64 is for Non Itanium 64 bit servers and x86 is for 32 bit (Intel Xeon/Pentium etc servers.)

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Leigh

Those are different installs based on the chip set of the server. if you are installing on a users PC you want the x86(32bit) install. The i64 and x64 are for 64 bit chip sets.
