I think microsoft is losing it's characteristcs, sql server 2005 is more Oracle look. my understanding of oracle, is that it's more professional oriented and the designer didn't spend too much time on polishing the outside looking of the product. This is the bad of oracle, microsoft not only want learn the powerful feature from oracle also want the bad looking of oracle, I don't think this is wise change, microsoft should stick to it's smooth and easy use interface and make the complicated management job easier and no need to let the user know how complicated it is. It's just my feeling, not necessary true.

sql server 2005 interface

FYI: Microsoft says they designed the interface of SQL Server 2005 to be more like Visual Studio and to take advantage of all their .Net components. They are also trying to cut down on the number of interfaces a user needs to actually run SQL, so they combined the Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer tools together.
My personal thought is that the interface is too crowded (I hate having that many boxes and sub-windows open at the same time), but the above is Microsoft's official take on the new design.

Once you get used to the design, it's actually not that bad (doesn't hurt that I've used VB in the past).

True enough. It also helps that I can close a lot of those windows until I need them. @=)
The one thing I did have trouble with was how to open new connections so I could have multiple servers in the same interface without opening up multiple copies of the interface. But I finally got that sorted out.
I really like the Template Explorer. That rocks! Much easier than digging through My Documents to find the code I'd previously saved.

I have been using the 2K5 interface in a business sense since October- and I like it. Its a little slower than EM, but I have got used to that. Removing a load of modal windows really helps.
I went back to EM the other day to modify a publication, and had to really think about how I was going to do it! Weird how quickly you forget things
