Hi Guys,

I wonder if i could have some advice...

Im after some advice on sql backups, at the moment we backup around 30 databases across 3 sql servers.. these are done by doing 15 backups on odd hours and 15 backups on even times during the day.. Is this the best way of doing backups.. as some backups do seem to fail most of the time!

Is there a much better way of doing transaction backups and datase backups?

I think it all depends on:
Your SLA/Disaster Recovery Plan
The size of your databases
How you are backing up the databases (disk/tape/etc)

Probably the first thing that you would want to do is determine:
Why your backups are failing (Error message?)
How long (approx) each back up is taking

From there you should be able to determine the best way to backup your databases (Full, Differential, etc)

Hope This Helps

BAckup needs and times vary widely depending on how transactional the database is and how critical the information is to the function of the business. If you can;t afford to lose information, backups must be more frequent that if you can easily recreate the information form the original sources.

DBAWinnepeg is right though, the first concern is to find out why the scehduled backups are failing.
