SQL2000 on Windows 2000 server...

Can anyone tell me why when I use the xp_sendmail XSP, SQL Mail works fine... But when I want a job to send a mail to say it has completed (either way - success or failure), it never does? The history of the job just says: "Note: failed to notify DBA via email".

If open the Properties of the DBA Operator and try to do a test, it also fails... Saying:

Error 22022: SQLServerAgent Error: The SQLServerAgent mail session is not running. etc etc etc...

If the agent isn't running, why can I use xp_sendmail?

Thanks!

Craig

SQL Mail and SQLAgentMail are two separate services. xp_sendmail uses SQL Mail. The Job uses SQLAgentMail. Read about seting up SQLAgentMail in SQL BOL. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA
