we recently merged with a new department and are now connected together through a fiber optic connection. the only changes we made on a topology point of view is modify both sides DNS info so we can move clients from 205.192.x.x to 1.2.x.x and get them to authenticate on 205.192.x.x network. All clients that have moved from 205.192.x.x to 1.2.x.x are functionning as if still connected to 205.192.x.x network,

Now, the only client having problems is a client machine (former 205.192.x.x, now on 1.2.x.x) attempting to access an SQL databse on the 205.192.x.x network

here's the error:

Unable to connect to database: Contact AMMIS Administrator Database error text: SQLSTATE = 08001 [Sybase] [ODBC Driver]Unable to connect to database server: unable to start database engine.

When you setup the clients, what are the possiblities that the Sybase client resolved the address and uses the IP that it found at that time? If seen that on some SQL apps. I'm guessing that when you ping the machine, it anwsers the right address...

Hi,

I don't have very good knowledge of SQL databases. There is one option for Client Network Utility. Add default network library of TCP / IP at client end. It may help you.
