I am not a database administrator. I do not study the vagaries of of SQL2K setup, care, or maintenance.
We are upgrading a SQL7.x installation to 2K.
Our current install of 7.x includes the SQL applications on the C:\ drive, but the actual database files, mdf, ldf, etc on the E:\ drive. The server itself is dual-processor, 2Ghz, with a couple pretty massive drives, but no RAID setup.
Is that good? Is it a problem? I'm being told that the upgrade will be more difficult in this situation, and that it would be simpler to store both the SQL2K application and the databases on a single drive.
Is there a "preferred" method of setup for a database server with two (or more) distinct drives?
I don't have immediate answers to these questions. Do you?
Thank you in advance for any time spent assisting my pinheadedness.
