I am running Windows 2000 Advanced Server on a single Xeon 2.8 w/2 gigs, functioning as a combination PDC, DB Server, Terminal Services, etc. My problem is that spoolsv.exe constantly hogs 50% of my processor. Was hoping someone would be able to help me out with that.

Hi jbotz,

Is this server also a print server? Also, are there any new/unusual events in the EventViewer?

I'm currently troubleshooting a related issue and I've been pointed in many directions. Here is a list of things to check out:

1. try to update spoolsv.exe, MS KB Q828153

2. if the problem started happening after adding a new print driver, uninstall the last print driver installed and use the Microsoft one instead

3. run fixprnsv.exe /diag

4. disable offline files in Win Explorer | Tools | Folder Options

5. disable anti-virus realtime protection to see if it is causing the problem

6. restart the spooler service and see if CPU goes back to normal

7. try installing uphclean.exe (User Profile Hive Cleanup)

Hope this helps!

Marc
