Speeding up Event Viewer for remote connections

One of my daily tasks is to check event viewer on several remote servers (with VPN connections ranging from 64Kbps to 256Kbps) for any errors/warnings etc. I've setup an MMC with event viewer for each server, however, it's actually quicker to user RDP to log onto the server and look at event viewer from there. This doesn't make any sense to me as RDP is bound to be generating alot more traffic than a simple MMC? How can I speed up the MMC, even setting a filter on it takes ages? Can anybody help me improve the performance at all?

mmc is too stupid to "speed up"

you would have to look at the communication between the 2 devices...

..are you running the mmc "run as.." admin?

wait.. I thought of something.. but its not a good something

the reason it takes so long is because its obvoulsy trying to connect you to that workstation/server

I wonder if you mapped your computer to logon to the remote workstation/server on startup.. then when you run the MMC you'll already be connected and it should be spontaneous.

In that case the delay is tagged onto your workstation startup.. and I doubt you want that connection open all day...

just an idea

yeah, I have admin privledges and everything, the problem isn't that I can't see it, it's that it takes flippin' ages to load !! sometimes the MMC goes to not responding it's so slow.

So basically there's no way to speed up the MMC then, seems silly that it "downloads" slower than something that shows an entire GUI (ie RDP).

..calling bcastner.... calling bcastner...

beep beep beep beeeeeep beep beep beep beeeeeep

sorry, I think we must have both posted at the same time as I didn't see your second post until now.

Bit confused about what you're trying to say.

>> mapped your computer to logon to the remote workstation/server on startup

What do you mean mapped to logon to the remote server?

OK, I went to add network places and created a new connection to the root of C: on that server - is that what you meant? if it is, then I'm afraid it didn't help. Maybe I should just complain to M$ that this makes NO SENSE - at least to me it doesn't that something as simple as this would run so slow!!
