I have a VB6 app that uses SAPI. So far my other VB6 apps are playing nicely with Vista, but this one can't find its objects. Anyone know if there is a patch? Can't find one on my MSDN CDs. Thanks (I hope)!

It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your
neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.

Oh, things like it takes 15 minutes to turn the machine off, 8 minutes to copy 1 meg of stuff from one folder to another, maybe 20 minutes to recover from a dropped internet connection, minor stuff like that. Course I only have a gig of RAM, but I'm told 2 gig (2 gig????) isn't much better.

BobRodes,

That is the same complaint I have. Just bought a laptop with Vista on it and thought 1 gig of RAM would be plenty but it is incredibly slooooooow. I was told to upgrade to 2 gig as well but I am not holding my breath.

My experience with Vista since May 2007 has been good.

>15 minutes to turn the machine off

I just got 22 seconds

>8 minutes to copy 1 meg of stuff

copies from to local disk average 2MB per second

>dropped internet connection

no such trouble

This is with Vista Ultimate on a Dell Precision 2.3Ghz dual core laptop in 2GB memory. Apparent response/ speed of this system is similar to that of my other Dell Precision 2.3 Ghz single core running XP prof in 1 GB of memory.

WOW! Opened a can of Vista worms. Thanks for all the replies. dilletante got me thinking.......
My orginal app uses the SAPI without a project reference set to the speech library. Once I set the reference, Vista will run it. Go figger.......

<no such trouble

Pleased to hear it, Hugh, though it hardly refutes my claims, any more than an assertion on your part that your house wasn't close to burning down last week would refute my claim that mine was.

:p

p. s. The Santiago fire was contained about 100 yards from my house last Monday. A "gnarly" experience, I believe they call it here in Southern California, but hardly as severe as that of a million others here this week.

I thought you'd been a bit quiet over the past week.
