All,

We just migrated to Exchange 2k3, we are using a spam firewall called Barracuda. All inbound messages are fwd to the Barracuda, then to the exchange server, this has worked great for a long time on Exchange 5.5. I have now started fwd messages to my new Exchange 2k3 server and I get the following message: "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for <emailaddress@domain.com>. Is there some way to get my exchange server to accept incoming messages from this spam firewall. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Things to look at

SMPT / Relay Security within ESM

Check for a software firewall (including the Windows version)

Check for AV software with Port Blocking (Port 25 blocking is common)

Your server has to accept and trust the Barracuda device!

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all.

You may have mail relay turned off as a security measure (and rightly so). You can turn it on for the barracuda box, but this might open you up for all relayed mail since the barracuda is basically your firewall for mail.

Did you call Barracuda on this for the correct setup? I'll look around and see what I can find.

If relaying is turned on, it should be " Only the list below" where you then enter the IP of the Barracuda.
