At my office, we have an exchange server that connects through pop3 to a remote provider and downloads the emails. I want to setup an antispam server to sit in front of the exchange box and filter the email, then pass the approved mail to the exchange server. Can someone recommend software that is capable of this?

Check out NetIQ Mail Marshal software. I've never done this config myself, but I thought it can retrieve mail from POP3, then use SMTP to route this to the Exchange server. You will be changing the config of your Exchange to function correctly with any anti-spam solution.
