I have an IBM R31 laptop, 1.1 GHz with 128 MB RAM and 18 GB Hard Drive. I load XP Pro, then Symantec AntiVirus 8.0, run all updates, then load SP2. All seems to be fine. Then, while loading other software, Office XP, and other education software, it seems like Symantec AntiVirus and some Windows features start "blowing up." Within Symantec, I will get the message, LiveUpdate failed while getting your updates. When I apply all the fixes that Symantec suggests, the problem still exists. I also am unable to install/uninstall any software or run Disk Defrag as well as view network connections. I'm sure if I go digging around, I'll find some more. I've done just about everything except contact Microsoft.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Jason

I forgot to mention, when I uninstall SP2, everything works perfectly. Uninstalling SP2 is one of the few uninstalls that works.

Thanks again

download & save all of the patches, updates, and other programs you need from the internet

set a restore point

then, disconnect from the internet and disable antivirus & firewall. load the programs you downloaded. if any of them need to connect to the internet to finish, connect then disconnect as soon as it is completed.

once this is done, you need to look at your settings for IE, OE/Outlook, firewall, and antivirus. take you time!

reboot

p.s. you may want to invest in some additional memory, 128 is less than minimal.
