Since installing XP SP2, I cannot get FileMaker Pro to open. It hangs on the Splash Screen. I have tried turning off the Firewall and still it does not open. I made it an exception to the program list and still nothing works. I have to shut down my computer and restart to get out of the hung program. Any ideas?--Thanks

Have you tried the old uninstall, reinstall trick with FileMaker Pro? I have found that this works most of the time with most Win 9x or XP software problems. Sometimes a shared dll gets corrupted and a reinstall restores it to where the program will work again.

Maybe try uninstalling filemaker pro and reinstalling it? You could also uninstall SP2 and see if it goes back to working. I've opted to hold out on installing SP2 until Microsoft gets some of the kinks worked out. Nearly all of the programs I use frequently are on the list of programs that they say will have compatibility problems with SP2. (What the hell is up with that??)

Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will reinstall it and report back.

Okay, have done the uninstall and reinstall and still nothing. Filemaker Pro 6 hangs on splash screen. Shows that TCP/IP was initialized and then there it sits doing nothing.

Any advice? Thanks, Rene

Okay, back in the soup. The uninstall, reinstall, add updates worked for a single use. Now when I go back to the program it AGAIN hangs on the Splash screen and says it is using 99% of my processes.

I again tried uninstall, reinstall, add update (a real pain to do all this). Yes, it works for one use and then back to hanging on the splash screen.

Does this sound like a conflict with other software? Would love to have this fixed as I have to use this program for a subcontract I am working on. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. BTW, is no help.

bcaster, the links really helped. I let FMP 6 churn away while I was not at my computer. At some point it eventually opened. Since then, it has been opening relatively quickly--barely a delay.

Thanks for the link.--Rene
