I need to finally switch over to SP2, and I'm wondering if there are ways to get rid of the new "features" of SP2? What has been stopping me from upgrading has been that warning window that pops up when an (unregistered / unverified / whatever) .exe file is opened. Is this something that can be done away with for good? I haven't been able to find the magic key words so far to get an answer off google.

I guess it's not bugging me after all! I had a screwed up video codec & installed a different codec pack that ended up trashing most all video playback, so I decided it's a good time for a reloading of Windows. I put all the updates on, and XP only bugged me for the first two apps I installed. All others never gave me a warning. I know from setting other brand new systems I was getting warnings on every app I was installing.

Whatever I did, I did it quite well!

It just gets me on how wrong Microsoft implements a lot of their warning systems. If 99% of the time you're opening up a file or installing drivers that you definately want to do and are 100% positive they're not going to put a virus on the computer - the warnings become totally meaningless & nothing more than an annoyance. It's definately not going to stop anyone then of opening that one rare file which actually does contain a virus. MS's methods are self-defeating most of the time, so sometimes it's good to be able to turn the warnings off.
