I have a freshly built Windows 2003 Standard Server on a Compaq Proliant ML350 G4 server. I have a requirement of an application to install SP1. Everytime I install SP1 after the initial reboot I see the Windows logo but then the server just hangs. No errors or BSOD, server just hangs. Cant even boot into safe mode as it does exactley the same thing. Built using Smartsart 7.4b and everything is updated and patched. Is there something that I need to do prior to the SP1 install ? I have looked on the HP/COMPAQ site and the only reference I can find is to a HP Storage Service Release 5.6 but cant download the file or get any clear indication that its this I need to install to get SP1 installed. Can anyone please shed some light on this for me.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I have looked at every possibilty and still can't find any reference to the problem I am having. I have rebuilt the server again with different CDs but the result is still the same. Booting into safe mode reveals that several drivers are loaded ok but then fails on one particular file but its so quick I cant tell what it is. Any MSGs out there know how to prompt for a driver install at boot time so that I can identify the driver then skip it or replace it ?

Many thanks.

Thanks for all the info. I have looked carefully at all this and even tried the slipstream option but to no avail. Its definately an SP1 driver causing the problem. I have made some progress though it would appear to be a miniport driver that needs to be disabled before the SP1 install. There is mention of it in the HP blurb but it is not detailed and not machine specific, but I will be giving it a go next week.

Many thanks.
I'll let you know if it works.
