Does anybody know which board is the better one between the Asus A7V333 and the Soyo KT_333 Dragon Ultra Platnium? I would like to find out what everybodies feeling are on these. I myself have never had a problem with Soyo and I'm hearing about problems with the Asus board. Any opinions on my "Decision Delema" would be greatly appreciated.
I've been using these sites as a kind of reference.

After buying an A7M266D board from asus right now I'm willing to try anything but another ASUS number...

Some factors that I'd consider right now are
1) does SOYO offer tech support or do they just say "refer to your reseller"
2) if not, can your reseller get support from SOYO?

right now, that's my biggest problem. My reseller is unable to get a response from ASUS, ASUS has not returned any of my emails or faxes. oh well, I guess I'll just rip the machine apart (again) and try rebuilding one component at a time...

3) Which board offeres the the best features for the price?

They are both very comperable to each other in terms of price and features, but Soyo gives quite a bit in the accessory department, such as a bay adapter for 2 USB ports w/ a flashcard reader and software for complete audio. I'm not sure if you have to contact Soyo resellers or not. As I said before, I've yet to have a problem of that scale with Soyo. The Asus goes between $166 - $200, depending on features. I haven't found the Soyo price yet, so it's kinda iffy at this point. I've heard Asus offers uncompromising performance. But I've been bad things as well. I've never heard anything bad about a Soyo board before.

Main differences:

Asus A7V333
AGP Pro Universal
Bus Speed Adjustment 100-227MHz
6 USB ports
Bootable USB
Support for Firewire
Memory Stick
Spare Jumpers

Soyo KT7V Dragon Ultra
AGP Pro (1.5 Volt only)
Bus Speed Adjustment 100-255MHz
4 USB ports
onboard Ethernet
BayOne option for CF/Smart Media
USB 2.0 bay
coax & optical S/PDIF

I've read that Asus's board outperforms Soyo's by as much as 5% in some benchmarks (3DMark2001 SE, SisoftSandra 2002 RAM, QuakeIII Arena). But I also believe both have their own advantages. Tough decision...

you cant go wrong with either one, i have an asus a7v266-e with raid rather than the soyo equivilant and it is great, and im sure the soyo board is good too, i bet that your performance differnce will be too minimum to notice when playing games, yeah benchmarks tell you how many more fps and all that, but if your gettin 150 fps with one board and 145 with another your not going to be able to tell, so have no fear because either board will do what you want it too adn will most likely do it very well.

Didn't the Gigabyte board beat them both on Toms hardware's recent review of KT333 motherboards.
With 6 channel audio, digital out, USB2, lan and best of all retails around 20% cheaper. Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

Just my two cents...

I've had a Soyo K7V Dragon Plus and an Asus A7V. My experience with the Soyo is that it has a lot of great features that probably save you money in the long run. But, I haven't been able to get Win98SE to run on it very well - WinXP works great, though. Also, you need at least a 300W PS - I had a 250W and it took a little while to figure that problem out. But that's what I'm currently running, without a problem.

The A7V was a solid performer. Not any problems with it, it just didn't have as much built in stuff which probably means that you'll spend more in the long run. I suspect much the same for the A7V333.

As for performance, I suspect that the Asus will perform just a little better. But if you disable the on-board sound on the Soyo and drop in a sound card they'll perform pretty much the same. Up to you.

Also, I called Soyo's tech support and got hold of them without a problem. Unfortunately, the tech I spoke to didn't seem too talented and after speaking to him and trying what he suggested I solved the problem myself. I haven't dealt with Asus' tech support.

BTW, check out Anandtech.com. They have a KT333 roundup that's pretty good.

Sounds like the Soyo would be the better of the two due to the well rounded value, performance, and stability factors.

Thanks for all of your inputs and technical facts it has helped me out a lot! Jay [atom]
