Hi guys, need some help on a tricky prob. downloaded new ver 6.07 drivers for my Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo 2 sound card. Installation requires me to disconnect from the internet so the Windows Update doesnt automatically update my drivers(oooook).Problem is i keep getting an "Internet Detected" message despite disconnecting my cable modem & even physically removing my ethernet card. Any ideas on how to get around this prob???

Hi,
That seems a little bit excessive!

It could well be that you have got some rubbish in your temporary files - delete them and start again.

For future reference.

Have you tried running start/run/winipcfg

Then press release all - this will mean that your NIC card can't cannot connect to the internet.

After you are done, run it again and click RENEW ALL.

It's easier than taking the card out ;-)

Please let us know how you get on.

Regards.

Booting your machine seldom does it any favours.

Thanks for the quick reply Win98User. cleaned out my temp files folder using disk cleanup & still no joy, and tried running winipcfg but i am running WinXP Pro & i dont think it has that option. Thanks for the suggestions.

ok is ipconfig a dos utility??...coz i get a dos window opening & closing immediately when i type that in, & cant do anything with it.

It runs at a command prompt, accessible from Start/AllPrograms/Accessories

ok, got the ipconfig up and running but none of what Win98User suggested appears there.

Think he meant issue the command
release all

To get a listing of the commands and switches...type
ipconfig(space)/?
and hit enter

ok got that figured, and still no joy. when i try to install driver i still get "Internet Detected" message :(

From what I can gather, there are a few things that are needed for this installation;
1. That the previous sound card driver is uninstalled.
2. That the network connection is disabled.
3. The latest DirectX drivers (DirectX 9).

Further digging throws up a utility that is included with the download and stored in the folder;
C:\Program files\hercules\ audio\Crystal Sound cards\Utility

the utility is called "Remove Device.exe"

It is a registry cleaner, to be used when you are having difficulties installing the drivers.

Give it a go and let us know the outcome please.

Regards.

i give up guys. no matter what i do it always comes up with the same "Internet Detected" message when i try to install and wont go any further.i uninstalled the old drivers, removed from registry, disconnected my cable etc etc and still i get that dumb message. thanks for your help guys
