Hi. I'm just trying to resolve an issue that i'm having with getting SB16 emulation to work in Windows 98SE. I installed the Dos drivers off the installation CD; however, it beeps in the midst of starting Windows 98, then it gives the message "error: SB IRQ conflicting with PCI IRQ." before going to the desktop. Note that the sound works fine in the Windows environment, it's just DOS apps that will not recognize the card. The settings for SB16 emulation are Address 220, DMA 1, and IRQ 5.

One fix that I found said to enter the BIOS settings then goto "PNP/PCI Configuration", then change "Resource Controlled" to manual. It then says to to Assign IRQ 5 (in this case) to "Legacy ISA". This setting does not appear in my case, instead there's only two choices: PCI Device, or Reserved. Setting it to reserved does not appear to do anything. The BIOS version is Phoenix Award BIOS v6.000 if I recall correctly. My motherboard is an Albatron KX18D Pro, and it's a Windows XP Pro/Windows 98SE dual-boot system.

Any help would be much appreciated, I've been fooling around with this for days and have gotten so close to getting this darn thing working.

Opps, I just remembered... will SB16 emulation work during a Win98 session or will I need to run the program in MS-DOS mode to get it to work? Also, are there any , perhaps, simpler alternatives to Creative's SB16 emulation? This almost seems like more trouble than it's worth... almost.

Thanks again.
