I have Hp DX2400 Intel R Dual Cpu, 2.0 Ghz, 2Gb ram tower.
I can't hear sound from the head phones and I can only hear the sound coming from the motherboard system audio.

Should I reload the drivers from Hp website or is there some type of motherboard issue. because i have 2 of the same pc and the issue is not occuring on the other one.

i checked the sound configuration on both pc's and they are the same.

It's possible the problem is a driver issue, but check in the BIOS to see that sound hasn't been disabled first of all.

I take it you've verified it isn't a volume slider control inadvertantly left at zero, or a box ticked to mute that particular channel.

Are you plugging the headphones into a front socket, or have you tried them in the back ones which are all part of the motherboard?

Any issues shown in Device Manager again sound hardware?

The volume slider , plugging the head phones into the front and back ports, and there are no conflicts in device manager.

The only im going to check is the bios to see if the sound is disabled.

If the two hardware installations are EXACTLY the same, then you could swap the hard drives over. That would tell you immediately if it's an issue with the motherboard or the sound drivers...

First, check for a headphone fault. Unplug the speakers and then plug the headphones directly into the rear panel connector that the speakers were plugged in to. If they don't work, then the problem is with the headphones.

If they work, chances are good that there's a fault with the front panel header to the headphone out. Try using jumper wires to get around the jack and connect directly to the headphones.
