I just got Grado SR255 headphones, and I'm looking for a sound card. I thought of getting either CL live 5.1 TerraTec DMX XFire 1024 or Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Any thoughts about this cards? Maybe some other one that would suit me better, under the similiar price range? I will be listening to mp3s and playing a few games now and then. I will only use headphones on this card so the surround effects and things like that are
unimportant. Also the power of the card isnt important, as I will get a headphone amp. I'm using win2K and Linux, and I have via chipset if that matters anything for the drivers/compatibility issues. Thanks in advance

Hey KennyD, I own the creative labs live 5.1 platinum card and I am very pleased with it. Now, I use multiple speakers and utilize the surround sound effects that it boasts of. I have also used headphones for which it provides a front side jack and volume control which is nice. This card however is more for users with surround sound needs and/or the need for digital quality audio input/output. Its a great card, but you might be able to find something cheaper that will accomplish what you want it to. Hope this helps.

To be honest, if you're going to use a headphone amp anyway, go for the much underrated Soundblaster 128. (No laughing at the back, please!) My son uses it and it is fine for his use, which includes gaming and music creation. He feeds the output into a hi-fi system and considers it easily good enough for this.
It is also about the cheapest soundcard you'll get. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.
