Sorting Records

Hi,

I am grouping by empNo and I like to sort by location.
I am able to sort by name and EmpNo. I am passing order by clause in query.
This is a report's format:

RH
PH
GH (Group by EmpNo)
DE (Suppresed)
GF <EmpNo, Name, SSN, Amount>
RF <Total: Amount>
PF

I need help.

Crystal 8.5 insists on groups being the highest item or items in the sort.

If you want to sort by Location within Empno, add it using [Sort Records] under [Report] on the menu.

If you want to sort by Empno within Location, then add Location as a higher group. [Change Group Expert] under [Report] allows you to choose which group is the higher, and unlike other 'Experts' you can invoke, it does nothing beyond what you tell it to.

I wanted to sort by Location within EmpNo; I have done as you suggested: &quot; [Sort Records] under [Report] on the menu.&quot; But it did not work.

I am sorry I forgot to mention that in group footer there is a surpressed field called location.

GF <EmpNo, Name, SSN, Amount, Location>

Any idea what could be wrong or any other alternatives.
Once again I am trying sort based on userinput.

to sort based on user input, you need to create a parameter and then use the parameter to group on.
