Hej,
my son decided to clean up his PC removing unwanted files and formatting. His original HDD is 30GB and would like to replace with 120GB Barracuda,he was using an 80GB HDD as a slave. Anyway it did not go to plan so I have tried to help him but I can't for the life of me get the 120GB to reboot, here's what I have done so far. This is what comes up on the screen when I start with a 98 boot up disc or an XP pro boot up disc.

Pri master HDD error
sec slave Drive- Atapi incompatible
run setup
press F1 to resume.

when I pres F1 I get a box with network in yellow but I can't
seem to change this I get

Network; novell netware Ready..blah blah
analyzing network media takes several seconds

RPL-rom-ADR:0030 1B37 CB62
RPL-rom-IRQ:5
RPL-rom-P10:DCOO
RPL-rom-FFC:(seconds count).
I... setjumper here
checked jumper on HDD set to master I... oooo(I's=jumper, o's=power plug)
no luck on boot up, went into setup:

Ambios setup-standard cmos setup
Pri master not installed
Pri slave not installed
sec master not installed
sec slave cd rom

Floppy drive A:!.44mb 3½

Pressed F3 and I got the same as above in setup
.I..
Change jumper to cable .I..oooo
got the same on setup pressed F3 and got the same setup as above.

system is MYCOM;Intel celeron 2000mHz;256 MB ram;

original HDD 30GB is the 120 HDD to big??

So if anyone can give us a lead to a few helpful threads it would be appreciated.
thanks.........Denis

Did you go into the bios and tried to detect the drive? It might be that you need to get a bios update for it to work with the 120gb drive. Best would be to ask the makers of your machine.

Or if you know what motherboard is in it you could search the web for updated bios files.

Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.

Hello Jump1ng,
the above question tells that I pressed F3. this was done in the bios setup several times giving the results I describe above. F3 is supposed to check for the various drives automatically, well that's what I am lead to understand.
Is it possible to go to the wrong Bios??

thanks for the reply....Denis

First, start only with the new drive in a single drive setting.

. check the jumpers. It looks from your description above that the 120 drive needs to be set as Master.
. Use only an 80-conductor IDE cable, not the older 40-conductor cable.

. Use the last connector on the cable, not the middle connector.

This message in the BIOS: Pri master HDD error
Is probably OK, and only a report that the drive is not formatted.

This message you can ignore. It is trying to boot from a non-existent RPL (Remote Program Load) image on a network server:
"when I pres F1 I get a box with network in yellow but I can't
seem to change this I get

Network; novell netware Ready..blah blah
analyzing network media takes several seconds

RPL-rom-ADR:0030 1B37 CB62
RPL-rom-IRQ:5
RPL-rom-P10:DCOO
RPL-rom-FFC:(seconds count)."

When you add the second drive, some have a setting to indicate that they are slave drives in a two or multi-drive setting. This is a different setting that slave in a single drive setting.

Fair play to you! I'll get to work on your suggestion.
thanks
