Sony Digital Camera Driver, crashes comp

hi, i just bought a new sony DSC-S30 Cybershot camera. it didn't automatically load the driver for my computer to recognize it, so i went through the process of trying to load them through the enclosed CD. that didn't work at all. so, i went through the control panel, add new software, and it realized that i had a sony digital camera, but said that it wasn't working correctly and i needed to update my driver. when i let it do it for me, i get the blue screen of death (don't know the exact fault code since i'm at work right now).

and now, the little buttons on the start menu that launch my IExplorer and Outlook Express are now missing.

anyway, i just want to load a driver that will allow my computer to recognize my camera so i can download my images.

if i should just try and download new drivers and "twain" file from Sony, then let me know....

oh, it's a gateway 500mhz, windows 98. any other info that i need to give, just ask, i'll try and remember it or dig it up.

well, i think i fixed it. i called tech support, and they told me to do what i'd already done, then gave me a bad web address to microsoft...

after all that, i just kept looking at the fault codes it was giving me, and one window said that i should look up "ASD" under Windows Help.

sure enough, just clicked that box to allow windows to run the driver, and it works!!??

i wonder why it was giving me such a problem when i was loading the driver?

so, thanks for anyone who read this and didn't respond, your help was greatly appreciated. you let me figure it out on my own without sending me on a wild goose chase (like sony and microsoft).
