I have a sony computer over a year old and the unit will not boot into windows. It will power up, i can hear the hard drive spin, but nothing after that. Also i get no video.....I unhooked floppy, cd Rom cables, all pci cards (onboard video..obviously), in feburary i had something similar to this (under warenty) that the power supply was bad...dont know....anyone else have an ideas?

Thanks

Is your video card PCI or AGP? Visit www.netwerkin.com

Clearing the CMOS would work if he could see the screen... I guess you could pop your battery off the motherboard, or even use jumpers or dip switches, so I take back my first comment... Visit www.netwerkin.com

Try it with the hard drive disconnected. Also
take a look at the capasitors on the mobo (the
tall barrel shaped things) see if any of them
are crowned on the tops.

Well don't worry about Windows yet, it may actually be booting into windows and you can't see it. I have seen bad power supplies take out video cards/chips. Maybe yours just went bad now. Can you check your monitor at a friends house to see if it is ok? Also maybe that same friend has a pci video card you can borrow. All it would take is a few minutes to get to the real problem. Then you can decide how to solve it. Good luck.

onboard video on machine, 100% sure its not monitor...tried 2 different ones, do not get any beeps at all. Still will not display or read anything off a floppy. Good suggestion about removing cmos battery...will try thanks..... JeffS
