Hello All,

I've ran the 9_recommended cluster on a V880/solaris9 but still am wondering about the management console.
Some while ago it never succeeded in showing me the enhanced storage box, it just hanged for ever and had to be killed.
wbem had to be restarted for the mc to work again.

I am used to using the meta command to construct devices so this is what I used after the hangup and it works fine.
gone were problems.

After running the OBP update & the recommended cluster yesterday I was keen to see if this changes anything.
But no, the enhanced storage part still fails to initialize and I can't find any log showing me an error.

I have to add a new backplane & disks to it so I'll be updating the FCLoop firmware anyway, but I wonder if this will change anything.

Are critical updates to the MC included in the 9_recommended ?
Could it have anything to do with java 1.4.0 ?
Where should I start looking ?
Isn't the SMconsole not just using the meta commands ?

Or, shall I just not think about it again and use meta commands ?

Thanks for -any- light!

When I set up mirrors on my V250, I manually initialzied the meta devices using metainit. This was as per my Solaris 9 System Admin guide. I also remember doing the same process during the Solaris 9 System Admin Courses. Once I did that, the meta devices were displayed in the Enhanced Storage Box. From there, I could use SMC to create concatination and mirrors.

thats what I did, I used metainit to bring the devices on-line and they are all working.
Thats what you mean right ?

I've looked in the /etc/lvm database file and it seems ok, metastat shows everything happy

Sounds to me like you are doing everything correctly. On you SMC panel, verify you are looking at the correct toolbox. Go to Console---->Preferences. In the entry "Home toolbox location" should read something like:

node name>:898/toolboxes/smc.tbx

it seems the correct toolbox is loaded since I can use all other SMC functionality.
Whenever I dare to click on enhanched storage, it never returns to a usable state, I have to manually kill it, kill some processes & restart wbem before I can use it again.
ptree show these processes are stuck:

11442 /usr/java/bin/java -Dviper.fifo.path=/var/run/smc898/boot.fifo -Xmx128m -Djava.
11486 remotedprovider solaris_diskdrive libWBEMdisk.so
11487 remotedprovider solaris_diskpartition libWBEMdisk.so

I'm hoping this will ring a bell with someone :)

I remember this particular problem on this machine existed since it arrived, I didn't check the OS that was preinstalled but did a fresh rollout.
Initially I used metainit to set everything up and afterwards I came across this strange behaviour.
