I have downloaded the solaris 9 x86 install, disk 1, and disk 2.

unzipped the iso file and created cds by right mouse clicking on the iso image and choosing record to cd, using EZ cd creator 5.0

I tried booting from each of them directly on my Dell PowerEdge 1600SC x86 machine, no luck.

then i made a solaris 9 x86 boot disk.

it boots fine, sees the cdrom, when I choose to install from the cdrom it accesses the cdrom then comes back with the following error message.

pci0@1....cd0@1... can't open: no hsfs VTOC.

any ideas?

Your CD is improperly formatted somehow. HSFS = High Sierra File System VTOC = Volume Table Of Contents. Make sure you didn't make a re-writable CD, you have to make a data disk and close it out. Or, your CD-ROM isn't where the boot is expecting it to be, but I suspect it's the former.

personally I have had problems with ez creator and solaris images both for x86 and for sparc. I would try to use nero instead. If anything look back on suns site and check how to burn with ez creator. I know I have seen something within the download page on how to setup the iso's. Hope this helps
