I discovered that in Solaris 8 the network interface remains down by default - you have to start it manually. This must be configurable somehow. Unfortunately i did not find a file name in the /etc directory which's name points to a network interface.

Can somebody help, please?

/etc/hostname.xxx (example: myhost.ge0)

The above file must contain the host name

more /etc/hostname.ge0

myhost

Also in /etc/hosts
Enter the name and ipaddress

Thanks tuka,

unfortunately this is the case.

Just want to let you know that sys-unconfig did the job.
