Using the SMS Installer, I am trying to create a distribution package for custom apps that our programmers made. they packaged their apps using the package and deployment wizard that comes with vb6. since the apps already have a setup program, i decided to use the repackage function of the SMS Installer to make the distribution package. It goes through the process and I compile the ipf file and get two files in the end, a ipf and exe file. when I try to run the exe file that the SMS Installer made, it starts installing the app and makes changes to the registry but then at the end of the process, it seems to always give me an illegal page fault error. Isnt repackaging what we are supposed to do for apps that already have setup programs made for it?

Something I left out is that i am trying to create a totally unattended install so this might be a cause for my problems.

Hey I have the same problem, but I don't think the software compiles correctly. Also can't get the exe to run after package is sent. I am also trying the unattended install. This is my first experience with SMS so any tips will be helpful.

Try using a /Q in the command path as well as seleting Hidden. Also look to see if the repackage funtion is is showing you an error.
Installer Step-up Utility for Microsoft Systems Management Server

In the Summer of 1999 Microsoft will make available a beta version of the Installer Step-up Utility (ISU) for Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS). This command-line tool that migrates (converts) setup packages from the Systems Management Server Installer format to the Microsoft Windows Installer format. The resulting setup package is a Windows Installer setup package with an .msi file extension. This new setup package can be run on any computer that has the Windows Installer service. Windows Installer is an operating system service that installs, repairs, and removes applications. Windows Installer is built into the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system, but it can also be installed on computers with the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0.
