DO I nee to set something in the computer. ANy suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

What VPN/Firewall do you have, must be a port problem if it works in the Locale Network.

Have you enabled VOIP on the Preferences->Phonemanager tab?

Does your headset and microphone work Ok?

Is the softphone registered ok with the system?

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

bas1234,

Thanks for the response. I am under the impression that once a VPN has been established you are beyond the firewalls. Please advise??

Matt,

I have Voip checked and kinda greyed out in Manager. The softphone registers everytime, no problem. The headset is a good one.

COuld it be something in the PC?

Quaz

Did you test the softphone on the LAN?
Better test that first, then you know where to look.

Also try to run this tool to open the default windows firewall ports.

TheTaker, shouldn't you have oneway audio then?
Never tried but could be.

A codec mismatch could also be a problem, try to set the extension to G729 or G711, don't leave it on Automatic.

Which IP address is the softphone registered with

the IP address of the laptop or the virtual VPN address? (assuming this is a windows VPN generated from the laptop)

Put a tick in the "Confirm IP address" box on the Codec tab.

When you log in it will give you a choice of the 2 Ip addresses. Select the one that is dished out by the VPN device

I just tested this on the lan. It does not give me audio. The corresponding hardphone goes off hook and it gets audio. I get ringing in my headset when the unit is called. When I answer from Phonemanager, my hardphone goes off-hook and answers the call. I must be doing something wrong. Please advise.

Matt,

I just realized what you meant on Preferences/Phone Manager. I enabled the Voip tab. Now when Phone MAnager initializes it gives an error message saying it "Failed to register with IP Office for Voip operation. Contact your system administrator. ". ANy suggestions?

just a quick one inbetween, do you have VCM channels?

If you can't be good, be good at it!

Have you created a specific softphone extension?

I'd try that next

I guess you have a 406V2 or a 412, the VCM-5 is not supported in a IP500.

Did you try another USB headset instead of the 3,5mm Jack or viceversa?

Escorthosis,

Your the man!! Thank you.

Quaz

LOL, this could have ended a hundred different ways!

Escorthosis,

I set my computer's services to reflect the suggestions in the Global Tech Tip and it still is not working. I have XP Home on my Laptop it turns out. Is that a problem? Both services are active. What else did I miss?

Quaz

Than that is your problem.
PhoneManager only works on;
XP Pro, Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate.
