Hi there. I'm in a pickle. Can you help me? Right :
I've got a Gigabyte GA-8IG1000-G Motherboard here is link for spec :
Its a socket 478 motherboard.
I've got a P4E 3.00ghz/1M/800. Intel product code : BX80546PG3000ESL7E4. Its a socket 478 cpu too, that should be compatible with my motherboard. (i checked on gigabyte's CPU support for that proccesor)
Here's the problem : Althought the pins line up exactly with the socket holes, the inner part of the chip seems to be too large for the central square of the socket. This means that the chip doesn't go into the socket.
I thought there was only one type of socket 478. Am i wrong? the socket has "mPGA478B" written on it. Does this mean there are different flavours of socket 478.
If that is the case which P4 would fit it?
Any help would MUCH apreciated.
Duncan
