How big of a company are you or rather how much mail do you plan on sending out?
If I were you I would just setup a temp mail server. Download the free version of software 602 lan suite. You can install this on a pc running 2000 or XP. After you have done that just setup exchange to use a smart host.
We are a fairly large company, 130 machines... the problem is this, we just merged four LANs into one and we have a remote office as well. The domain names are different at the two different offices and our internal domain name is different that our EMail domain/company name... Really, the only emails that I am having trouble with are those to the other office. Our emails are First.Last@Company.com at both places. We use DNS internally and the firewall uses external DNS at the ISP. There are Two MX records internally HERMES.oldcompanyname.com and HERMES.newcompanyname.com I'm LOST.. Whaddya think?
I keep getting the following error in the queue, "The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink" when trying to relay off of the ISP mail server
Well.... we have OC and LA... LA has their own Exch. svr that they used to use for all of their mail. OC has our own Exchange server too. We also have an ISP based Mail host. We'll call that XO. XO has all of our(both LA and OC) Mailboxes built there. I'm not sure that it's all set up correctly but it's working, as of about two hours ago. I set the our XO mail host addy as a relay in the SMTP Virtual Server and it all started working.... Not sure if it's correct... I am working on getting a VPN firewall of the same make as ours to make a nice clean VPN between the two offices so that we can begin to become the same domain.
