I was in System Manager on my Exchange Server and I was noticing under Servers/SMTP/Queues that there were tons of references to spam emails. What is this queue for? Are these outgoing emails from my exchange clients???

Also, under current Queues I notice there are junk mail that sits and then sends out. I have been victim of tons of SPAM and also viruses. How do I stop this??

Look at these... Sounds like you are open relay. If so, better clear this up quickly, or your domain name might start ending up on blacklists.

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Thanks Matt. I followed the directions and everything looks as if we're not an open relay. Let me ask another question. I'm looking at the current queues and many of them say Retry. Is it because these things are trying to send out and our server blocks it??? I'm confused as you can tell! I'm kind of guessing that someone or someones computer is trying to send these out. Could this be true?

These are NDR's from SPAM e-mails to sent to your domain for non-existent users. You can simply delete the messages in those queues. To prevent this take a look at Open Relay Filter. It has a Active Directory lookup. If the user account does not exist in AD it is rejected. And no NDR queues.
