Hi All
We have E2K SP3 on a W2K SP4 server.
This morning I've noticed that incoming e-mail has been coming in erratically, i.e. First thing in the morning I noticed I had only a couple of SPAM messages in my inbox, whereas usually I have about a hundred. Then someone else mentioned they had received no mail this morning. I started checking out the server, making sure all the services were running, then all of a sudden, loads of SPAM started coming through into my inbox, but the other user still hadn't got his mail. I noticed some strange items in the SMTP queue, looking like this:
Name:internet mail xxxx.com (SMTP connector - Remote delivery), status Retry, to (or from) dodgy looking domains. The retry interval was about 30 minutes. I deleted the messages. A few minutes later, loads more spam came through along with all the other messages we had been waiting for.
I have 2 questions:
1. Should I be worried about SPAM domains appearing in my SMTP queue, is it a sign of an open relay or just NDR's going back to spammers?
2. Why would the exchange server operate in this way, no messages for ages then all of a sudden a big surge of messages.
thanks
Andy Cole.
