SMTP only works with Outlook

I've been around since the 80's; and I'm finally stumped.

I've googled my ass off, and still have no clue about this one.

I can't get any outgoing email working EXCEPT for Outlook. I tried using m2 and Thuderbird; and the SMTP fails.

However, if I use Outlook... I have no problems.

Does anyone have a clue??

Can you telnet to the local/ISP SMTP server from a command prompt?
