I am in need of establishing an SMTP filter to only allow SMTP traffic from a specific IP address. I have tried a protocol filter to deny all, then allow traffic from specific IP address. This stopped all smtp traffic. I then took away the deny filter and smtp is fine, but I can telnet on port 25 from any external machine now.
I want to do this so I only receive mail from my spam filtering service...any ideas?

Thanks in advance
DJ

your rules should look like this...

block in on all
# or you can specify the ethernet device in my case qfe
block in on qfe0
pass in on all from any to any port = 25
# or more specific
pass in on qfe0 from any to any port = 25

Should work. What are you using, Linux, BSD, Solaris? Should work just fine throughout all. Haven't used Linux in ages, so maybe something has changed in Linux but under BSD, and Solaris works just fine.
