My users on my network are generally sending and receiving emails ok, but there are a few domains that keep getting bounced back.

We can send and receive emails from them using Yahoo! mail or Hotmail, so to check that they are working OK.

I look in the logs and can see the SMTP connecting OK to the working domains but the bounce backs keep retruing for 24 hours.

Log messages:
11/04/2003 10:34:27 Router: No messages transferred to HW-CHAMBER.CO.UK (host HW-CHAMBER.CO.UK) via SMTP: Server not responding
11/04/2003 10:34:28 Router: Failed to connect to SMTP host HW-CHAMBER.CO.UK because Server not responding

Is the server that is not responding one of yours ? Is it on-line and the mails are still not getting there, or is it outside of your sphere of control ?

The servers that mails are being sent to are outside of my control, they are other organisations servers.

Another weird thing is that I can send a trace mail ok, but any normal mail will be returned.

I think that it may be my SMTP configuration.

We use Symantec Norton Anti Virus v3.0 for Domin / Notes (with live updates) and have now disabled it's "Scanning for email routing" option. This has so far fixed our problem!
