I've another big pb.
The echange 2000 has been installed by an external consultant before i comme to my new entreprise and he has left no documentation.
i find no connector configured in the routage to send emails towards internet.
but the mails are going out except for one particular domain.
i don't know HOW the mails are going out without configuring SMTP connector?
I've to reconfigure now so that all mails go out without any execption.
Can i create a new SMTP connector towards my ISP?

Thanks for your suggestions!!!!

you don't need an smtp connector to get out to the internet, that functionality is built into the smtp virtual server. what is the error/NDR you're getting for this one domain?

Error:
@aol.com le 11/06/2003 18:03
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.
#5.5.0 smtp;550 ACCESS DENIED>

i like to understand this.
How does the mails point to my ISP.
Can you please eplain me.
Thanks

where the mail "points" to depends on how exchange was set up. There are two possibilities: 1)use a smart host, or 2)use DNS. The smart host is a single point of contact that exchange forwards all outgoing mail to. This host then uses DNS to make delivery. If you're using straight DNS though, it's likely your name server is configured with a Forwarder that points to your ISP's name server.
As for that smtp error you're getting, it's possible that your domain has been blacklisted by aol either for being an open relay or as a possible spam suspect. This could be a complete mistake on aol's part, but you still may need to contact them to fix the problem.

My DNS server forwards to my ISP (wanadoo) with two dns servers adresses.
The pb may come from (as you say) from aol.
i'll try to contact aol

i've exch2000 with 15 clients and i've a conncetion ADSL through wanadoo.fr (ISP) without a real domain name.
so i point my dns forwarders towards wanadoo.
when i have contacted wanadoo, i understood that my mails go out with "abo.wanadoo.fr" which is naturally in the aol blacklist.
I can also send my mails through my sister concern who has a fixed domain name.
can i create a smtp connector under routage towards our sister concern or
can i change my forward dns towards our sister concern.

Thanks

Hello,
I have the same exact problem. I can't send emails to AOL.com or Comcast.net.

I have checked with ordb.org to see if I was in their database (or 3rd party database) as blacklisted. I wasn't. I also had them run an open relay test to ensure mine was closed. It was and has been comfirmed to be closed by them.

Comcast.net doesn't blacklist by IP, the do by email address and my email wasn't on there.

I've also checked with the AOL postmaster website to check for open reply. No reply from them yet.

I use Comcast.net for my ISP (Cable Modem) so why should they block me from sending? Here is a copy of my NDR:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test comcast
Sent: 6/6/2003 3:28 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'########@comcast.net' on 6/8/2003 3:40 PM
Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. Please retry or contact your administrator.
<server.domain.com #4.4.7>

I've also used nslookup to make sure my DNS is set correctly (MX and A records). I can send to everyone else (I've tested 15-20 domains).

Any clue????

on the SMTP connector properties, make sure you do not have checked the option to "allow messages to be relayed to these domains". If that option is checked, and the address space is *, then you are an open relay even through relaying is closed on the virtual server.

Also, if your address space is really *, then the connector is useless - the virtual server can send the mail all by itself.

just a thought...

yes, our sister concern has a registered domain name and MX record.
I think of including its ip adress i the dns forwarders.
shd it solve the pb?

doesn't work like that. what you'd need to do is use the sister as your smart host for outgoing mail. Of course, the sister would then need to be configured to allow relay from you.

Kixtart,

AOL is not blocking you because you have an open relay. You are being blocked because your IP is in a dynamically assigned subnet. You need to configure your email server to use your ISP's static mail server address for outgoing mail. Try sending an email to info@abuse.net the NDR will give you some more info. Contact your ISP to see if you can use their email serevr to foward your outgoing email's.

thank you all,
i've configured a smart host pont to my sister concern.
Naturally, our sister concern accept th relay from us.
The pb is solved.
